Star Wars Episode VII Review : Bringing Back Hope for A New Generation

Regarding to the appearance of Indonesian actors potrayed Kanjiklub, as an Indonesian fellow I appreciate it very much. It is huge stepping stone for Indonesian motion picture generally, and of course for 3 of them as international actors.

Overall, for The Star Wars Episode VII, first of all I do really appreciate what J.J Abrams has done to this "saga". The director grown up as a fans of Star Wars. Therefore he really knows what all of Star Wars fans really wants. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, and Oscar Isaac are the real deal, these are the great discovery, and I can be so sure the bright future is ahead of them. as the new characters, Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, and Poe Dameron are really unique characters. unlike the prequel (Episode 1, 2, 3), I didn't see any dissapointed or hugely crap new character like Jar Jar Binks.

J.J. Abrams built Rey's characters as an Enigma One on this latest trilogy of Star Wars. The background of Rey's characters will be waited by a lot of Star Wars audience. Dozens of questions await her, such as who she really is ? what is the relationship beetween her and Luke Skywalker ? Why does She feel the force ? etc.

Who is Rey actually ?

On the other hand, Finn whose been potrayed by John Boyega, is also another new and unique character. Similar with Rey, we still haven't figured it yet, who he really is, we did't know about his chilhood and why or how he was taken away by The First Order. As far, we just know that Finn realized that he was raised to do one thing, and that thing wasn't right. Why just only Finn among a lot of Stromtroopers who realize it. Does he have some special ability ? yet again, we can't figure it out.

Finn

Poe Dameron, potrayed by Oscar Isaac, is another unique characters, He is a smart pilot from The Resistence. We now can finally see a pilot has more role, responsibility, and important duty. unlike the previous movies, when pilots either from The Rebellion or The Resistance as just an additional characters.

Adam Driver as Kylo Ren has also done well as he potraying such an complicated and flaw villain. Not just become Darth Vader 2.0. as an audience and a fan, I Saw Kylo Ren is still on the crossroad between the light side and the dark side. His position on The First Order is just because now he is possesed by Supreme Leader Snoke. generally, I did't see Kylo has made a decision to choose the dark side, yet the possibility for Kylo Ren to choose the light side are still widely opened.

On The Dark side, we had also seen some good characters, General Hux, Captain Phasma, and Supreme Leader Snoke. they are made short but important role. yet we still wait for some expanded explanation about 3 of them.  

"Complicated" Kylo Ren

Harrison Ford and Carrie Fishers potrayed Han Solo and Princess Leia, they are long term built up characters. after almost 35 years in the making, they are not just pretending to be Han Solo and Leia, yet, they are really Han Solo and Leia as genuine as the first trilogy.

Luke Skywalker, made a short apperance on this movie. was this enough ? I think so. why ? because, as we can see on the promotional poster, we didn't see the figure of Luke Skywalker , yet on the trailer 1 or 2. so the short appearance of Luke Skywalker is enough but still important on a whole movie's plot. All of description of Luke on the whole movie with just some seconds appereance made Luke Skywalker become a legend and myth as the director wants Luke to become.

"Legendary" General Leia Organa & Han Solo

The apperances of  Han Solo, Leia Organa Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, bring back the atmosphere and memory of episode IV,V, VI. The old fans will be very glad and touched. All of those questions and the enigma of Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren make "The Force Awakens" so intriguing. and these new characters including General Hux, Captain Phasma and BB8 bring our generation into it, time after time our memory will be live with them.

I saw this movie as an amazing movie of our generation, a lot of emotional factors emerge, the upset, fun, romance, tears, thrill and action are blended. Yes it is not the perfect movie but I did not see any flaw on it. a bunch of questions which emerged, made this movie will be watched over and over again, and finally we can't wait to get the complete answer on episode VIII and IX.
